About Shirley and Melvin Cunningham
Shirley and Melvin were married on January 21, 1951. They made their home on her family’s homestead west of town where they raised their four children, Jim, Rodney, Susan, and Cindy.
Shirley was employed as a secretary at the Medicine Lodge Elementary School for 17 years and worked at Gold Bond for 14 years before retiring. Support and encouragement to her family, friends, and youth in her community were very important to her. Many were blessed by her thoughtfulness through phone calls, visits, & especially her card ministry.
Melvin was employed by Lodge Chevrolet for 18 years. His true passion was farming which he enjoyed his entire adult life. He served on the Sawyer Coop board, the Farmers’ Home Administration board, and on the Medicine Lodge Memorial Hospital board for many years. His gentle, fun-loving, and encouraging spirit was a blessing to all.
Shirley and Melvin loved being active in their grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s lives. They loved attending school activities and sporting events together throughout the years. Their home church was the United Methodist Church where they both served the Lord faithfully. Spending time with family and friends were the highlights of their days! Their strong faith and love for the Lord, their family, and friends were their greatest treasures.
